Every year all furniture brands release their latest designs usually showcased in international fairs such as Salone Del Mobile: every April in Milan Italy, Maison et Objet in France: in January and September of every year, Highpoint Market in NC, USA : every April and October, among others such as Maison et Objet: in Moscow or Shanghai, Imm Cologne: in Germany, etc.
During these fairs we can understand the new trends, get to know new designers, check out new collaborations, all this will create a type of competition for better designs.
Favorite Sofas and Sectionals of 2018
*Granville by Minotti.
My all time favorite brand is Minotti. Many would agree with me because of its timeless yet very modern designs and impeccable finishing. It’s pricey, but worth every penny. The new fabrics launched for 2018 were as good if not better than all their previous collections. Most colors are neutrals, hints of color or print are part of the collection but in the most elegant way possible. This particular sofa has lovely angles. The armrests have a unique architectural vibe to them.
*Caesar by Fendi Casa
One of the most luxurious sofas this year. The lines are just beautiful, the fabric selection is so luxurious, and yet very versatile and comes in many forms and shapes.
* Montgolfiere by Marcel Wanders for Roche Bobois
For the first time Roche Bobois go for such an immense collaboration. One of the most talented interior and product designers, Marcel Wanders, came up with a full collection for Roche Bobois. The collection is beautiful and very different. This sofa has a very unique structure, you either love it or hate it.
* Ether by Jonathan Adler
Just simply beautiful, adds glamour to any space. The curves give it a distinct touch, resembling sofas from the 70’s.
* Audrey by Gallotti & Radice
Although this is a 2017 piece, I feel it got popular in 2018, as it was presented during iSaloni last April. It’s beautiful, acts more as an art piece than a sofa. Perfect for that extra special piece.
Favorite Dining Tables 2018
* Kensington by Poliform
Poliform usually have beautiful woodwork as they are also very popular when it comes to wardrobes and kitchens. I loved this piece because it stands out, their collection tends to be much more conservative.
* Lagos by Baxter
This gorgeous table was released in 2017 but in a limited choice of granite tops, this year they have released in several exquisite tops matching perfectly with the brass legs.
* Beaune by Fendi Casa
This is a new table not officially released yet, we can say it will be part of the 2019 collection. It was shown as part of the private viewing hosted at the company’s Palazzo in Forli, Italy.
*Morgan Marble by Minotti
This was also released in 2017, but the marble version was released in 2018. This is a new approach by Minotti, marble table are not new to the brand but were usually part of the coffee table collection only.
Favorite Beds of 2018
* Caesar Bed by Fendi Casa
Usually Fendi Casa tend to go for the very large headboards that are divided in a certain way, this caught my attention because it is simpler, the way a bed should be. Elegant and simple.
*Paris Paname by Roche Bobois
Similar to the Fendi Casa bed, this has glamour yet simple, the way it encompasses the night tables is just beautiful. The whole Paris Paname collection is my favorite from Roche Bobois.
*Frame by Giorgetti
This beautiful bed has really nice lanes, the way the leather is framing the headboard gives it a rigid yet well-designed look.
Trends Are Beautiful But Always Aim For ‘Timeless’
Every year I like to do this evaluation of what was popular in furniture, what is meant to set the trend for next few months, and what will stay around for a longer while. It is a joy and a passion of mine, I just love furniture especially the high end brands because I know for a fact how much effort is put in the manufacturing and the design. Because these brands are on the higher priced side, their designs no matter how modern or trendy are still timeless and can become classics.
